Wood is good

Today we had people to come teach us about forestry and logging. We learnt about how to keep ourself ‘s safe  around logging trucks and some future job opportunity’s around forestry. They talked to us about the tree cycle and how many of our everyday objects are made out of wood such as paper, toliet paper ,cracker boxs and more .

Then after we went down to a logging truck and we got to go in a have a look around the cab .                                                                                                                                                I loved the ulpholstery  work  on the roof I also thought the gadets on the dashboard were fasinating but most fun was blowing the horn. The smell of  cut pine smelt nice I think everyone enjoyed going in the truck and sitting in the seat while blowing the horn.                                                                                                                            we have gotten cool books about forestry for every student

Have you been visited by wood is good ?

yesterday we did paintball in Pahia it was so fun we went with Manuka class. I was in the blue team the shots didn’t really hurt i think it was the bruise’s hurt more after than the shot. I got shot heaps I got shot in the waist, twice in the collarbone, arm and thumb I have no bruises but it hurts.
This is one of the moments I have.
As I kneeled down waiting as the andrillon rose the wet grass ran to me soaking my pants were my knees turning that space a musty old dark green and brown. While the loud sharp pangs filled the air as the paint exploded on the sigh that we were hiding behind as we kneeled firing and pulling the trigger. I turn and look at Mi’le and then to Whaea Sarah she shouted out at Mi’le and I to run and they will cover for us as I kept leaning back an fourth wanting to run as iI looked around continuously around . Then Whaea Sarah told us to go three times in row then Mi’le an I leaped and ran across the bridge as paint flyed past from the other team and Whaea Sarah defending us.As our feet thump on the bridge and my heart was thumping and pounding, when we ran though the grass and landed behind the rusty tractor as a sheild. I felt a relief, took a deep breath and raised my gun to return to shooting the other team.

Have you ever played  paintball ?

We used google draw to make our postcards.

Here is my postcard.

Do you get postcards from grandparents or do you send postcards to others?

Holiday’s Reflection

The start of the holidays  was wet and windy but at least the water filled the water tank. My dad and my brother Lincoln went down to Auckland so it just left Me, my little sister Indy and my mum. We were going to meet up with them on Tuesday.  So… like I said it was a wet and windy holiday start.  Me and mum did a puzzle to start the holiday. You can see my other blog to know more about how the puzzle went.

Before going to Auckland mum made me clean the clean the house with her. Its always hard to clean the house with my little sister. She is always pulling things out; then not playing with it and leaving it out. Once you finished, she’s already playing with something else. Does your parents make you clean before you go on holiday? How do you feel about it?

Tuesday; When we got to Auckland, we spent time with my Ouma. On Wednesday I went to go see my aunty Caley and nana plus my cousin Frankie. I made my own earrings on Thursday; it was raining again. We went to go pick up some clothes for my sister Indy.

First we decided to go to Motat and the weather was clear. As we soon as we stopped the car the sky opened up and bucketed down. So then we decided to go swimming in an indoor pool near Albany but when we got there the pool was at full capacity and a huge line making its way out the door and along the foot path. People were waiting to get in the pool and it was so disappointing pointing. Mum decided to wait 15 minutes to see if the line wound move, but in this 15 minutes we only moved one step forward.  As soon as we got into the car the sky opened again and bucketed down. I was so glad that we weren’t still standing in that line. In the afternoon we spent an hour at my cousins Frankies house and left at three in the afternoon and drove back up north.

Saturday I wanted to go to the farmers market in Kerikeri but there was terrentional rain warnings. Around 10 in the morning the power went out for the rest of the day until 5:45. It was a long, long day and we went to fresh and tasty for hot chips for dinner.

Monday we finally went to pak n save and I got my ingredients for my baking.  I saw Whaea Tina doing shopping with what I think was her daughter .

Tuesday we went on the Taumarumaru recreation reserve walk  and helped mum set up her class room and my dad came home from Auckland around six thirty.

On wednesday me and Lincoln helped helped my dad in the garden and chopped down a dead apple tree. On Thursday I did gardening, weeding and put bark around our plants.

On Friday I went Oakura beach to go swap the cars. My mum car was getting a warrant of fitness, so the was driven my aunty car.  We saw my aunt, nana, cousin Frankie and their new little puppy “fauna”. Fauna was rescued puppy and was born in house with 70 other dogs. I played with my sister Indy and my cousin Frankie and we jumped the little waves and built sand castle for sand fairy’s to live in. Oakura beach was beautiful and it had beautiful seashells and glistening waters.

And on Saturday  I got my hair cut at new hair saloon. I got a cut called French bob and it is so pretty. I love my hair short.  While I got my hair cut with my mum; My dad , my sister and brother went to drop of the kayaks at my dads uncles holiday house in Taupo bay. It was just built but it stills needs to get the deck.

Today Sunday I am enjoying the last day of the holiday and getting ready for school. I might go for a walk to Hihi beach and have a swim.

What was your favourite part of this holiday ?

Chocolate caramel square

Chocolate caramel square is a fun loving treat that everyone will love.

You could make it for a party treat or even just a sweet treat after school. Chocolate caramel square is an easy recipe to make from my cook book. It is called Kiwi Classics written by Nestle. It has kiwi classics just like lemon meringue pie, tan slice and kiwi crisps.

This recipe has one main thing that puts it together. You would need Highlander sweetened condensed milk. Be warned this is hard to currently find in Park n Save, or at 4 square.

This recipe makes 24 squares, and the preparation time is 30 minutes. The cooking time is 27 minutes and chilling time 30 minutes. So if you decide to make this you would need to have a bit of spare time.

Chocolate caramel square has three main ingredients lists. The BASE,FILLING and ICING.

The base ingredients are as follow:

1  1/2 cup of flour,

1 teaspoon of baking powder,

1/2 cup of brown sugar,

125 grams of butter, melted.

The filling ingredients are as follow:

1x 395g can of highlander sweetened condensed milk,

2 tablespoons of maple syrup,

1 tablespoon of butter.

The icing ingredients are:

150 grams of nestle cooking chocolate,

50 grams of butter

I enjoyed making this recipe because it is fun and easy. My family loves the chocolate caramel squares and the icing was the hardest part of all.  Melting the chocolate. It sounds easy but not really. I  kinda of needed a little help from my mum. The cocolate separated- you would be absolutely surprised at how much oil comes out of chocolate.

I was so surprised when I saw all the oil. It made me want to chuck the melted chocolate out.  I now know that I need to get better at the chocolate melting part.  Other than that the chocolate caramel square turned out pretty well. We just had to dabe the chocolate with a paper towel to soak up all the oil left over from the chocolate. It made the chocolate look really shiny.

If you would like the whole recipe comment below and I will reply with this scrumptious recipe.                                                               Do you have cook book that you bake or cook from ?

Taumarumaru Recreation Reserve walk

Yesterday  was the third of October.  I did the Taumarumaru Recreation Reserve walk. The Taumarumaru walk is an amazing, beautiful outdoor activity to do on a sunny day. Yesterday was a bright and sunny day and my brother Lincoln has been asking us for ages if we could do this walk.

Yesterday my mum said “yes”.  My mum and I along with Lincoln decided that we would do the loop track but a third of the way though we decided to do the coastal track.

From there the path lead us down to one of the small beaches.  It was so quiet and calm and the water was sooo clear. It was still too cold to go swimming.

I like to collect sea glass that washes up on beaches. We found 150 pieces of sea glassine only in an hour. We found six white piles of glass,111 pieces of brown and 33 green. It felt like we spent ages on the little beach but then we had to head back to the car park. I think my brothers favourite part was collecting glass and walking the tracks but also going over the small bridge that was over a small ditch.

The Taumarumaru recreation reserve walk was fun and exciting and had absolutely stunning views. I would defiantly do this walk again but next time do all of the loop track , do the coastal track again and go look at the stream . I would recommend this track to anyone who wants to see amazing views see beaches that you can’t see driving by in a car.

Have you done the Taumarumaru Recreation Reserve walk?  If you do decide to do this I recommend that you wear gumboots. There is a lot of mud and mushy grass.

Second book review- Dawn Raid by Pauline Vaeluaga Smith

Today I will be doing a book review on Dawn raid. My last book review I told you about the book Mission girl. This book (dawn raid) is one of my Duffy books that I’ve read. It is written by the author Pauline Vaeluaga Smith.

Dawn raid is set in the 1970’s and is about a girl Sophia who enjoys learning te reo songs and learning rakau. Her main worries as a young girl is to find enough pocket money to buy her dream boots. The groovy go-go boots! Sophia ends up doing speech competitions and needs to find more info to put in her speech. She finds out that a lot of people bullied her because of her speech. Sophia constantly gets bullied because of  her culture, the names of cultural food, and about her family.  She however ended up in the final for her speech.  She faced her bullies.

She ends up getting on the milk run to get pocket money. A job at last, but she is under age.  After a week trial she puts her groovy go-go boots on lay by.  Before she goes on holiday, she finally has enough money to buy her groovy go-go boots.

She went to say at he Grandparents house. One night at her grandparents house there was a raid. At four o’clock in the morning police come in and are pulling people out of bed, people are screaming and crying. Her uncle, dad and her brother Lenny is sent to jail for protesting against the police. After the dawn raid Sophia’s family get help form the Polynesian panthers.

The panthers encourage immigrant families across New Zealand to stand up for there rights. She ends up being friends with the bully and she finds out what to ad to her speech about being Dawn raided and after the speech competition she came second place.

As her family listened to her speech they learnt the secret. Instead of Lenny going to his friends house for the weekend, he and his friend was walking in the big hikoi to parliament.

I enjoyed Dawn Raid because it showed what it was like growing up in the 1970s.  Sophia had set herself a goal and never gave up. She worked really hard and saved a lot of pocket money for the groovy go-go boots. It was sad that Sophia got bullied and her family got raided.

In the end her family that went to jail got out, she used her experience to write an excellent speech and come second.

Have you ever read Dawn Raid before? I would really recommend it.
