Sweet tooth Musli bars

Today I made homemade musli bars. They are sweet, healthy, and delicious all in one bar. they are simple, easy to make and tastes delicious. I made these today because I’ve been nagging my mum if I could do baking and it was something I could make with my little sister Indy.

It also helped mum so that she could do some work around the house. Also musli bars are one of those lunch box treats the most kids always have so I thought maybe I could make my own for a snack or lunch box treat.

I’ve taken a recipe and twisted it to make my own here is the ingredients.

100 grams of butter or coconut oil melted  ( I used butter in mine).

1/2 cup of dried apricot chopped

1/2   sultanas/raisins or dried cranberries

1/2 cup of shredded or desiccated coconut

1   3/4   cups office rolled oats

1/4  cup of sun flower seeds (  optional)

1/4  cup of pumpkin seeds   ( optional )

1  cup of rice bubbles   (optional)

1 pinch of salt

You can always add chocolate chips, freeze dried blueberries or freeze dried strawberries as well.

I loved making these musli bars and my family love them.  They are so delicious and they keep for a week in an air tight container in your cupboard. You can always freeze them in snap lock bags.

I experimented with maple syrup and Manuka honey and I recommend don’t use both at the same time because there really sweet. Still a sweet delicioustreat.

Do you like baking?  Musli bars are a delicious thing to make at home in the holidays, after school or on the weekends. It is super easy and you could do it without any help.

If you would like the full recipe please let me know in the comments and I can respond with the full recipe! Have a Happy Holiday!

Have you ever made home made musli bars before ?

Book review.

In the past few days I have been reading two books. The first one is called Mission girl and the second is Dawn raid. Mission girl is a book I’ve just recently got from term three’s Duffy books.  Dawn raid is also a Duffy book but I got this in term two. These are “My New Zealand” stories.

Mission Girl  is a lovely an adventurous story about a young girl named Atapo who is living with her tribe.  Suddenly…another tribe attacked and killed all the babies. They  took everyone as slaves.  The leader of this tribe took Atapo’s mother Kahu. A terrible sickness arrived and Kahu was pregnant with her second baby. Kahu fell sick and one night passed away. Marama    Atapo’s grandmother and Atapo’s aunties gave her kumara, her mothers hetiki and earring and told Atapo to run away.

Soon she found a mission house and stayed there for a night and day. She moved around and left for another mission house far away from her tribe. She learned the ways of a pakeha a survive strategy. She turned to the lord, and the church  and learned how to write and read.

Atapo even went on to be one of the members who signed the treaty. She even had some admires but after a while the new chief of her tribe put a curse on her that she would die. They blamed Atapo for all the deaths in there village.  At the end Atapo decided that she would leave to go find her other kin (family) that was down south.  She was going to teach them to read and write. She was also going to show them the love of god.

The chiefs son of that tribe got married to Atapo. And the sickness that Atapo’s mother and granmother died from was influenza. I loved this book cause showed you how she was feeling. It made you feel empathy towards what she was feeling.

After all Atapo lost. She still stowed determination, grit and faced her challenges. She learned, carried out her grandmother wishes. She still carried on, even after being cursed and blamed for others deaths. She never gave up hope. It really shows what an  Amazing female Atapo is. I would definatly read this book again and again and again.

Keep reading in the holidays. I’ll up date you on another review on the second book (Dawn raid) in another blog post?

Have you read any of the My New Zealand stories before?

Re-creating old photos

This holiday I am planning to re-create some of my old photos. I would love to see some of your photos that you re-created. I think that this will be an awesome holiday project to keep me busy.

Re-creating a photo means when you go through old photos when you were younger. Then you pose or re-create the photo as close as possible.

The photo above is when I was 3 and I had a special doll. Till this day I still have this doll and its been past down to my younger sister. I have used pic collage to compare the two images.  I loved looking through all my family photos. It was a bit sad seeing all the photos of old friends and some loved ones who have passed away.

The interesting thing was to see all the amazing things we use to get up too. I found some photos of my mum when she was 12 and we look very similar. We still look very similar.

It is scary how many photos get stored on devices and images never get printed. Do you have a lot of photographs in your home or are they all on devices?

Rainy day holiday fun

Yesterday was the 23rd of September. It was a raining heavily and the wind was strong and it was the kind of day where you would just sit around watch movies all day. Since we were all were stuck at home and needed to get out of the house.  We decided  to go look around at the op shop. We had a look around at the clothes, then the art things and then my little sister Indy made us look at the toys.  Me and my mum saw the puzzles…  we had a look at one and decided that we would get one to do at home. We got a 1000 piece puzzle. Its  called sweetheart path and we are nearly half way done. At first all the colourful pieces was blinding and needed to be sorted to make things easier. We sorted it into 4 piles grass, buildings, plants, and water.  It will be fun and exciting when we finish it.  Once you release that you don’t see much detail in individual pieces but once put together it reveals a lot more detailed then you thought.

I found out that me and my mum are perfect partners for this. I have eagle eyes and she is my eyes when I’m tired. When I start getting a head ache I know its time  for a break. Hopefully we finish the puzzle before tomorrow because we have a big tidy up to do. We are driving to Auckland on Tuesday for my Ouma’s birthday on Thursday.                                                                                                                                                                                                              Have you ever done a 1000 piece puzzle before?

The second disco

On Thursday the 17th of August we had our second disco for 2023. It was so much fun. The theme of the disco was who am I? My teacher Whaea Sarah went as the cow jumping over the moon and it was her first disco of 2023.  The last disco, she had a doctors appointment. I went as Jane Fonda, she is a very famous American actress who dresses in all sorts of wacky outfits.  I danced with my friend Norah, Amiria and Ayla. I had  l drink and a mini pizza.  My friend Norah went as popcorn and actually glued real popcorn on! Amiria went as someone from keeper of the lost cities and Ayla was catness from the hunger games.  It was such a fun and I had such a great time .

Do you know Jane Fonda is still alive ?

careers day at pamu farm

On the 11th of August 2023 my class Nikau and the year 8 class Manuka we had the amazing opportunity to go to pamu farm and do a careers day. We were the youngest students there because the others schools were high school students. The  program was actually for high school students but when a space opened up my teacher Whaea Sarah asked our principal if we could go and she said yes.

So then we were filling out a paper to go. It was so fun. The first activity was forestry. We learnt all about the trees and forests and then while we went to our next activity we had our morning tea.

Then we did animal husbendry and then we did sheep world. We had lunch. Tt was so yum the students at north tech made us a lunch bag.  It had a stick of cheese, a bread bun with cal-slaw  and Anzac cookies and a brownies. There was rump steak as well.  After lunch we did bull auctioning. Here is some photos.
